What is the Definition of Wellness?
Health is a condition where sickness and infirmity are absence in the person that comprises the body, mind and spirit. Various definitions have been used for many purposes over the years. The dictionary defines health as well as sickness as the state of being fit or healthy; to be well at all times.
The most commonly used definition of health is by Merriam Webster, “the physical and emotional well-being of an individual.” This shows that it is a combination of the physical, mental, and emotional being of a person. It includes both the body and soul or mind and spirit.
There are many different determinants of health that include physical environment, genetics and lifestyle choices. One of the main determinants of health status is the level of personal knowledge and information regarding disease processes and their prevention or treatment. It is through the accumulation of such information that people are better able to make educated and better choices concerning health issues and become better equipped to meet the needs of others.. By considering both the strengths and weaknesses of each factor, you can develop an understanding of what it means for you to be physically well-balanced.
