The History of Sports
The word “sports” can mean different things to different people. For example, to some people it includes only contact sports like swimming, gymnastics, football, tennis, track and field, hockey and lacrosse. Sports also commonly define a level of play, like competitive basketball or netball. Other types of non-contact sports are called recreational sports. An individual who plays a sport professionally is known as an athlete. Professional athletes have earned much fame and money in their sport, which makes them celebrities and greatly influences the people around them.
One type of sports that has become increasingly popular over the years is outdoor recreational sports. These sports can be done on a court, around the pool or lake, on your back porch or just out by yourself. In America, luge sports, ski-ing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, bungee jumping, sledding, skateboarding, surfing, kite-surfing, horseback riding and fishing are all forms of outdoor sports. In Canada there are also many different types of sports that people enjoy doing. Some of the most popular American-based outdoor recreational sports include: sledding, canoeing, mountain biking, skating, curling, skating, snorkeling, boating and running.
Most of these sports require a great deal of physical exertion, and even more of a mental and emotional exertion. Sports are a great way to stay in shape, get outdoors, meet others with similar interests and experience the great outdoors in style. Most people who enjoy sports will tell you that the best part of the experience is the experience that you have with your sport and the fun that you have with the people you meet along the way. You can find many websites that will show you videos of actual sports, along with some information about the players, the teams and some history about the sport.
