Public Health, Policy, Practice, and Prevention
Health, according to the World Health Organization, defines it as “the quality of the physical state or condition of an individual at the time of a diagnosis, recovery or follow up.” A wide variety of such definitions have been in use for various purposes over the years. The primary objective of health is defined as “the ability to live well”. For most people, there is a general awareness that good health contributes to happiness and well being. However, many individuals may still be unsure as to what constitutes good health. In this article, we will discuss some of the important factors that should be taken into consideration when one seeks to obtain a definition of “good health”.
The first thing that should be considered is overall health. This includes aspects such as the health of the body as a whole as well as the mind and emotions of an individual. In addition, the definition of health care also includes the capacity of an individual’s immune system to fight against diseases. When people are able to access quality public health care and medical care, they are able to maintain their well-being in general.
Second, when it comes to public health, prevention is better than cure. By preventing the occurrence of diseases and illnesses, people can ensure that they have the best chance of living a normal and productive life. In most cases, prevention takes place through the efforts of local organizations, such as community health promotion programs, that work to address the varying social determinants of health. Through this planning phase, an area can develop strategies to address the health promotion needs of its citizens.
