We all know sports is fun but what most people don’t realize is that there is a science to it. Sports have been scientifically studied for years to help athletes train, how to prevent injury, understand fatigue, and learn more about their particular sport. Many sports are considered “sport” because they involve contact with an element other than the ball such as contact with an opponent or ball. There are sports which do not fall into this category such as, swimming, cheerleading and gymnastics.
Sports recreation or recreational sports are different from sports that are professionally competitive in which athletes compete in races, games or competitions against other teams of varying ability. Sports that fall into the recreational or “social” category include playing video games, riding miniature bikes, camping and hiking, bicycle riding and other leisure activities. All recreational sports are physically fitness oriented.
Leisure time, also known as “free time,” is not necessarily about sport or physical fitness but rather about having fun. For many people play sports because of the social aspect of playing with friends or fellow family members and not necessarily because they want to participate in a competitive sporting activity. This difference of opinion about sports and leisure time makes it important for families to spend quality time together. Playing sports should be a pleasant experience.
