Video games are a modern phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. Both young and old people of all ages play games in the real sense of the word, with the only difference being the medium used. Gaming is the act of playing specialized computer games or computer based activities such as online games or World of Warcraft, on video game consoles such as X-box and PlayStation and on personal computer (in which the activity is called internet gaming.) Video games and computer games differ largely in their components, purpose, distribution and development.
Video gaming involves interaction through visual displays, where two or more independent devices are used to display images on the screen. One example of an electronic game is a shooting game, in which the player has to direct his shooting efforts using a keyboard and a mouse. The second example of an electronic game is a racing game, in which the player has to use a joystick, racing wheel or bicycle to maneuver his vehicle.
Internet video game consoles such as X-Box, PlayStation and Nintendo Wii have revolutionized the gaming industry. These game consoles are based on advanced technology that allows them to provide highly realistic graphics and sound, as well as to make the game very user friendly. Internet-based multiplayer games, also called massively multi-player online role playing games, or MMORPGs, allow many players to interact simultaneously with each other, often taking advantage of specialized features like chat rooms and chat bots. There are many other kinds of online games that have become popular over the years, most of which are based on special properties of the human mind. Computer games can be categorized into action games, racing games, card games, adventure games, sports games, puzzle games, and the list goes on.
