The first definition of Health has been the ability to survive the normal conditions of life. Today this definition has become much more narrow, as it includes the full spectrum of healthy living conditions that enhance quality of life. Healthy is not just having a good time; it is also having enough, having the right resources, being safe and having a sense of balance and belonging. According to the World Health Organization, “health is a state of full physical, emotional and social well-Being and not just the absence of illness and infirmity.” Various definitions have been used over the years for varying purposes. However, some of the most common health terms are: health, disease, health condition, illness, nutritional, mental health, psychosocial, and physical health.
The second definition of health refers to the capacity for enjoyment of life, which may include having good health, being content in day-to-day activities, and being able to cope with normal stresses, disappointments, and difficulties. Good health also refers to the ability to carry out everyday responsibilities without unnecessary pain or discomfort. A healthy body and mind are the primary foundations for happiness and success and maintaining good health is necessary for achieving these goals. The third term refers to well-being, which is the ability to enjoy all one’s senses and be inspired, happy and fulfilled. Healthy well-being enhances emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being.
The fourth term is described as the ability to attain well-being, which implies both having a healthy body and mind. The individual must also be physically fit if he or she wants to have a healthy lifestyle. Having a good sense of physical fitness improves health, as well as reducing illnesses, anxiety, and stress. A physically fit person is also less likely to develop many serious diseases.
